Pros

  • A first step towards VR collaboration

Cons

  • Subscription-based service (not free)
  • Just a vehicle for Spike to market their collaboration tools
  • Will only be of interest to those already using and paying for Spike

I very much doubt any Oculus Quest users will be interested in this glorified email client.

Spike Email and Team Chat is a subscription-based email and communication service that aids business collaboration.

The Oculus Quest app will only be of any interest to those that already use Spike in their day-to-day workflow – basically, it just allows you to access Spike from your headset.

Most people are not going to change their email client, even if it does offer features such as ‘conversational’ email that is more akin to messaging. Notes, tasks and calendars are also provided but these are available via other email clients or software, which can all be accessed by the Oculus Browser anyway.

Spike are obviously a forward-thinking organisation and recognise the value that workflow via virtual reality headsets will bring in the future and are ensuring that they keep ahead in the game.

But, right now, I don’t think the technology is advanced enough for this to become mainstream just yet.

Verdict

This app is just a gateway to using Spike’s paid subscription-based collaboration tools and will have little value to most Oculus Quest users.
