Officially, the answer is ‘no, you cannot use the Oculus Quest headset to a Sony Playstation 4 or PS5. Neither Sony nor Meta supports this sort of configuration.
However, there are a number of workarounds that are available to effectively ‘fudge’ them into working together.
However, in my experience, none of these options is particularly great and there can be terrible latency problems, so I would not advise it. If you want to play VR games on your PS4 or PS5 then get the PSVR headset and be done with it.
How to connect an Oculus Quest headset to a PS4/PS5
Okay, okay, since I wrote this I’ve been asked a few times for more information on the workarounds I mentioned above. As I said before, I don’t recommend this (just get a bloody PSVR headset) but if you are determined, here are the methods that can be used:
- Use a video capture card and forward the video from console to headset (bypassing PlayStation’s remote play)
- Install PS Remote Play on your PC and mirror your PC screen to your Oculus headset
- Install SideQuest and download and run PS Remote Play directly on your headset
Please don’t ask for any further details about how to do this – I’ve already said that I don’t recommend it and do not want to take responsibility for someone bricking their headset. If you really must try this out, there are plenty of tutorials already available on the Internet.
