Are Oculus Quest 2 Controllers Bluetooth?

A question that is regularly asked by the Oculus community is ‘are the Oculus Quest 2 controllers Bluetooth?’ Of course, in recent months the word ‘Oculus’ has been replaced with ‘Meta’.

This is usually asked because somebody either wants to use the controllers with some other device or their controllers are not working and they want to know how they should go about getting them to reconnect.

In short, the Oculus Touch controllers are not Bluetooth compatible but they do use very similar technology. The tech uses the same 2.4Ghz bandwidth but uses a proprietary protocol that is incompatible with other devices

Therefore, Oculus Touch controllers are not compatible with PC, Xbox, PS4/PS5, Vive or any other VR headset.

If you are having trouble getting your Oculus Quest controllers to connect to your headset, first ensure that the batteries haven’t ran out (unlike the headset’s in-built rechargeable lithium battery, the controllers use bog-standard AA batteries).

If this fails, follow the troubleshooting steps here on the Meta website.
